Horizon Bay Builds Assisted-Living Facility In Hyde Park, Creates 50+ Jobs

South Tampa's historic Hyde Park will be home to a six-story building housing 136 assisted-living apartments for seniors, the first new senior residence in the city in more than 20 years.

The facility, now under construction by BI Hyde Park LLC at 800 W. Azeele St. and opening next year, will become Horizon Bay at Hyde Park. It will be the flagship property for Horizon Bay Retirement Living, a nationally known Tampa-based manager of assisted-living facilities.

"We are proud to build our flagship property right here in Tampa," says Thilo Best, chairman and chief executive officer for Horizon Bay. "This will be an excellent addition to our roster of diverse retirement communities nationwide."

The construction is generating 100 jobs. When complete, the new facility will hire a staff of 50 to 60 people.

Horizon Bay at Hyde Park will include an Internet cafe, fitness center, library, game room, bar, pool and lounge with views of Tampa Bay. The apartments will feature full kitchens, granite countertops, walk-in closets and tile floors.

Privately held, Horizon Bay manages portfolios of senior apartment properties for institutional real estate investors. It serves 16,000 senior apartment units in 89 communities in 18 states.

The Hyde Park project will bring Horizon Bay's Florida portfolio to 23 properties and its Tampa Bay area portfolio to six retirement facilities in Lutz, Tampa, Largo, Clearwater and Sarasota.
