Selmon Expressway Construction Closes Tampa Parking Lots

Five parking lots in downtown Tampa are closed temporarily while the city makes road improvements.

The Lee Roy Selmon Expressway deck widening and resurfacing project means the City of Tampa will close five of 11 surface parking lots located directly beneath the expressway till the end of January 2012. The city manages the lots on behalf of the Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority (THEA).

“The lots underneath the Selmon Expressway contain monthly parking and provide after hours support for special events such as Lightning Games and concerts,” says Irvin Lee, director of the City of Tampa Department of Public Works.

Totaling 370 spaces, the five lots are located at 310 S. Florida Ave (Crosstown Surface Lot #2), 302 S. Morgan St. (Crosstown Surface Lot #3), 317 S. Jefferson St. (Crosstown Surface Lot #4), 114 S. Jefferson St. (Crosstown Surface Lot #5) and 853 E. Whiting St. (Crosstown Surface Lot South).

“Ultimately, we anticipate closures throughout the project for all 735 spaces under the expressway,” says Lee. “For alternative parking locations, we encourage our customers to look into our other garages such as South Regional, Whiting Street and Fort Brooke.”

Closures related to the project are expected to continue through Spring 2013.
