A Publix Supermarket pharmacy is making its way to the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa.
Beginning July 2nd,
Moffitt will outsource its current pharmacy, marking the first time the Lakeland-based grocer will open and operate a pharmacy not connected to one of its grocery store locations.
Publix will operate a facility onsite, meeting the needs of patients and employees.
“We're always striving to better serve our patients,” says Braulio Vicente, senior VP of Moffitt Hospital and Physician Group Operations. “Moffitt by itself is limited on how to best meet the growing needs of our patients as they look for access and convenience. This relationship with Publix allows us to meet our patients' needs today and in the future.”
The 2,800-square-foot Publix Pharmacy at Moffitt will expand its services, including the pickup and refilling of prescriptions at local
Publix Pharmacy locations, extended hours and mail order capabilities featuring electronic routing prescriptions to desired pharmacy locations.
“Publix offers the geographic coverage we are targeting,” Vicente says. “Without Publix, we would have to make significant financial investments to improve our information technology platform and add mail-order capabilities.”
Existing
Moffitt Pharmacy employees will have the opportunity to make the transition to work for the Publix Pharmacy at Moffitt.
Currently, Publix has 1,049 supermarkets in five states, including 744 in Florida. Company headquarters are in Lakeland.
