Solamatrix In St. Pete Adds 40+ Manufacturing Jobs

A merger between Solamatrix of St. Petersburg and Madico of Masschusetts late last year is resulting in several new jobs being added in Pinellas County in 2011.

Solamatrix develops and manufactures window films for cars, homes and commercial buildings.

The innovative products the company is known for are SUN-GARD and GLASS-GARD. SUN-GARD is an automotive solar film used to block UV rays from damaging interior leather and vinyl from the sun's heat. GLASS-GARD is a safety and security film used for both commercial and residential properties, and is designed to help hold a broken pane of glass together and thus preventing shards of glass from flying upon impact.

"The acquisition of Solamatrix by Madico has sparked an immediate need for additional employees at our St. Petersburg manufacturing facility," says Angie Howard of Solamatrix. Madico's film production that is currently being done in Woburn, MA will be shifting to St. Petersburg, which is driving the increase in hiring.

"We currently have approximately 40 open positions," Howard says. "The majority of the positions to be filled are in manufacturing, including machine operators and quality inspectors, as well as a few customer service representatives and support personnel."

Solamatrix currently employs 66 people at its St. Petersburg facility; however Howard says she expects that number to grow to 115 by the end of 2011. The manufacturing facility and company headquarters are located at 2630 Fairfield Ave. S. in St. Petersburg.
