The University of South Florida's Center for Jazz Composition can now add a Grammy nomination to the long list of critical acclaim for its first release, The Comet's Tail: Playing the Compositions of Michael Brecker.
The album features Vince Mendoza's arrangement of "Slings and Arrows," whom center director Chuck Owen commissioned for the piece. Owen and his group, Chuck Owen and the Jazz Surge, as well as a few guests, played a number of tunes composed by the late composer Michael Breckner for the compilation.
