Boston financier Jeff Vinik, a minority owner of the Boston Red Sox baseball team, apparently will become the new owner of the Tampa Bay Lightning hockey team.
Vinik, who managed Fidelity's Magellan Fund before founding Vinik Asset Management, must be approved by the National Hockey League's Board of Governors. The approval is generally considered a formality.
