The Creative Class blog, which is inspired by the work of Richard Florida, recently featured a post by St. Petersburg-based blogger Peter Kageyama that examines the impact of tourism on Florida's economy.
Kageyama writes that Florida's tourism-driven economy is a double-edged sword. While tourism has provided enough tax revenue to allow Floirda to avoid a state income tax, the unpredictable nature of the industry makes it difficult to invest in Florida's future.
It also leads people to underestimate Florida's potential when it comes to industries unrelated to tourism.
