A Palm Harbor software development company that serves the workforce development, employment and training industries, is expanding its footprint locally and boosting its staff 10 percent.
Geographic Solutions, founded in 1992, occupies three buildings in Palm Harbor. To fund its expansion, it received tax refunds for every new job created through the state's Qualified Target Industry program.
QTI works with the governor's office of tourism, trade and economic development, Enterprise Florida and Pinellas County to help new and expanding industries in targeted, high-growth industries with high-paying jobs.
The company also received more than $26,000 from the state for retraining more than 50 workers.
Geographic will use the refunds to help finance a new 18,000-square-foot building, which will serve as the new corporate headquarters, and open in 2010.
"Our employment and workforce development systems are at work in more than 40 states," says company President Paul Toomey.
The staff expansion will not only help the local economy, but possibly spark Geographic's clients to grow, Toomey says. Its software is available to more than 75 percent of the employers and job seekers in the United States.
