USF Professor Compares Weight-Loss Programs

Insciences reports that a University of South Florida researcher has discovered that the Atkins and Standard American diets have greatly differing effects on stress and mood.

David Diamond, a professor of psychology and molecular biology, presented his findings at this year's Annual Society for Neuroscience conference, which took place in Chicago.

Diamond's findings show that rats fed the typical American diet, which is high in fat and sugar, were much more likely to suffer from high stress levels and weight gain than rats fed the Atkins diet, which is high in fat and low in sugar, or another diet that was low in both fat and sugar.
